ETHOS – Zeitschrift für Kultur und Gesellschaft (Journal of Culture and Society) is an international, double-blind peer-reviewed journal dedicated to exploring the intersections of culture, society, and the human condition. Published twice a year by maurer.press, Frankfurt am Main, ETHOS welcomes original research and critical essays in German, English, and Turkish.
At its core, ETHOS is a space for interdisciplinary dialogue across the humanities and social sciences. It invites contributions from fields such as literature, cultural studies, linguistics, history, philosophy, sociology, film studies, anthropology, and art history—disciplines that together shape our understanding of how meaning, identity, and value emerge within human communities.
Founded in 2025, the journal was conceived as a response to the growing need for reflective and ethically grounded scholarship in a rapidly changing world. ETHOS takes seriously the idea that culture is not merely a mirror of society but a living process through which societies imagine, contest, and transform themselves. The journal seeks to encourage research that not only analyzes cultural and social phenomena but also questions the ethical dimensions of knowledge, representation, and human experience.
Each issue of ETHOS aims to bring together diverse voices and methodologies—from historical and textual studies to critical theory and cultural analysis—fostering conversations that cross linguistic, national, and disciplinary borders. Our goal is to contribute to a richer, more nuanced understanding of how culture and society shape one another in both local and global contexts.
All submissions undergo a rigorous peer-review process and are evaluated according to the highest standards of academic integrity. Supported by an international editorial and advisory board, ETHOS strives to provide an open and respected platform for scholars who wish to engage with the ethical, intellectual, and imaginative dimensions of contemporary human life.
